Embroidery Hoop Projects and Christmas gathering with the girls

So, is everyone finished with their Christmas decorating.  Even if  you are, here is a fun decor project that comes together really quick..... so you might want to plug in your glue gun girls :)
I'm sharing some embroidery hoop projects that my sis and I made.  Each one is a little different and unique from the other. There are so many fun things you can do with these. You and personalize them to your liking.
Luckily my sis decided a while back to hang on to these "biggies" instead of getting rid of them, and boy I'm glad she did.  We put them to good use.
   * If you don't have any, you can get them at most any craft store.  I had also ordered some in sets from amazon.

I decided to age mine by staining it a darker brown. I just used some brown spray mist I had on hand and it worked great.   After that, all you need it whatever you want to add and a glue gun.

It was hard to get a good photo of mine with the battery operated candle lit in it at night, so above is it  during the day and below at night.
I didn't glue the candle in, because the on/ off switch is on the bottom of the candle... but the candle sat  in there nicely with no problem.

This is the other one I made.

Here is my sis with the two she made.

Aren't they gorgeous?!?!
She left the wood hoops natural for this one.

For the one below she used washi tape on the edges of the hoop, and it looked so cute!

I love the simplicity of this one so much. She has a lot of great places to hang hers. There is so much amazing natural light in her house also.. so these are going to look gorgeous.

I've made a number of embroidery hoop projects the past few months.
Here are a couple if you missed them.

I hope you get a chance to give one a try!

What else went on this week?  Well, I had the girls over for a little down time last night.  Don't we all need that about now?   It's always such a great time with these ladies. I'm so blessed to have them for friends. I truly mean that!  Each one of them have the kindest hearts! They are just people that you WANT to be around.

We each brought some cookies to share.

Oh, did I mentioned I say, wear your slippers and pajamas? lol  I was determined it was going to be a relaxing evening for all of us.  We just ordered pizza and sat around and chatted.  Trust me, there is never a lull in the conversation. ( Oh, yeah, there never is with me around lol).  Actually we all chatted a bunch.. and it was great!
Once we had room, we  had cookies and hot chocolate.

Life is good.

I hope you all find time to step away from the hustle and bustle of this time of year ( even if just for a little bit)  to spend some time just enjoying your favorite people.  It's the best gift you can give yourself!

Thanks for stopping by!  Hugs all around!  Vicki

"Five for Fridays" Joy to the world card

It's THAT Friday!  Yes, it's "Five for Fridays" with Tammy Tutterow's  Creative Team.
It's that busy time of you .. I know. But I hope you can still find time to sneak a way for a little creative time. For me, it's just such a time to unwind.  Even if it's just sitting down to make a few gift tags or a simple card for someone special.
Even tho a love making cards and I always send Christmas cards, believe it or not, I don't send handmade Christmas cards, for the most part. ( I can almost hear the gasp). lol   I love sending Christmas cards, but I do not find it fun or relaxing to make 50 cards all alike, and I'm never ambitious enough to start months ahead.  So... long ago I  gave myself permission to not feel I needed to. lol  I totally enjoy sending Christmas cards, and I always seem to find some that I really like.
I do make a few each Season and I send those to my elderly Aunts. Or to some close friends elderly parents.
I decided to look up the history of Christmas cards. (link below)
 The  history of Christmas Cards

Tammy has some really great stamps for Christmas.  For cards, altered projects and gift tags.
You can check them all our here. /

Mistletoe and Memories

Hey friends!
Here we are, into the Hustle and Bessel of the Holiday season already.  I'm trying to decorate and do some shopping but I had to say, I don't know how those of you who live in warmer climates get in mood when it's sunny and warm outside. lol  It's been in the upper sixties here and so nice! I'm not complaining...but I'm a life long Nebraskan and this is not normal.lol   One thing about Nebraska tho, .... just hold on because it can change in a flash.    I'm talking advantage of it while I can.  I know ice and snow will not be fun with my foot issues.

Speaking of Holiday Hustle here is a card I have up on the Scrapbook Adhesives By 3L blog using the Christmas collection from Fancy Pants Designs, called exactly that..." Holiday Hustle"

I said in my last post that I would share some photos of our big family Thanksgiving.  This year Jarad and Kate invited us all to have Thanksgiving at their new home.   They moved in a few months ago and have been working away on projects.  This was an old country school house that had build on to by the previous owners. ( And elderly couple that had lived there for many years).
I cant even begin to explain the unique charm and character of this house. Jarad and Kate are so happy there.  It's only about 15 minutes from us, so that makes this momma happy also.
Kate ( my daughter in law), is a teach in this small town, so it's a perfect fit.
Back to Thanksgiving.  It was just a wonderful day!  The weather was so nice nice we could even be outside!     I  know we are all thankful to be able to be together no matter where it is, and renting the Senior Center works well for us, since there are so many...... but..... having in in a home was just amazing!
It was the first time most of the family had seen their new place, so it was fun for Kate and Jarad to show them around the house and acreage.

Below is a photo I snapped as we were having the blessing.  Maybe not appropriate for me to take a photo during the blessing but I am so happy to have this photo.  It just warms my heart.
As you can see, there is always plenty of food! lol Everyone brings food (and trust me, we have some pretty amazing cooks in the family).  No one went home hungry :)
Pictured below is still not everone that joined in the day.  Wes and Amy both had to work until 2 so they came later.
Of course we missed our other siblings from out of state and their kids and grand kids, but we message and send videos back and forth with them as well as facetime.

We are all thankful to be together.  I feel so blessed to be a part of this big, crazy family!
When I look at this picture I can just see Mom and Dad smiling.
( Dad would nudge mom and say "Look what you started" ) lol

I didn't take tons of photos. Instead I just enjoyed the moment.
You know how I love photos, so when I came home I have to admit I was a little bummed knowing I hadn't taken many.   Well, that all changed when I uploaded my photos from my camera.
This has happened before, and I LOVE IT!
Someone ( Nathaniel) had picked up my camera and left me some surprise shots.
These made my day!!

Photos like these are just the BEST!

I look back on photos from family gathering from previous years and I can't believe how these kids have grown up!
I know a number of you who have been coming to my blog for years, know these faces.
Hard to believe Nathaniel ( in the photo below) is now the bearded 21 year old in the photo above!

And Lyndsay is now a young  woman living on her own and working in the big city.
Of course I have project and layouts with photos of all my nieces and nephews in my files, and it's so fun to go back and look at how they have grown and changed.  That's what I love about photos. They can just take you back to another time.
I ran across this catalog cover from Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage with "little" Lyndsay on it. awwww

I will always be a lover of photos.
Now days we all have phones with cameras at our finger tips.  That's great, but we have to be sure to download and save them, or to occasionally print some off.  We seem to do that will professional photos but for me there is truly  nothing better than candid shots :)
I've always had a soft  spot for the everyday photos.  I think they say so much about who we really are.

Keep clicking away my friends!

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share!

Hugs, Vicki

"Happy Holly Days" framed decor / Five for Fridays with Tammy Tutterows Creative Team

Hello friends! Hoping all of you US friends had a Happy Thanksgiving!
(I'll be sharing some photos from ours in an upcoming post).

It's "Five for Fridays" with Tammy Tutterow's Creative Team.  It's always a fun inspiring day when all the girls share new projects they've been working on.   Here is the link to Tammy's blog where you can see what the others have created.  On Tammy's blog you can also check out the links to each of the ladies personal blogs for even  more inspiration.

During the holidays I really love finding fun things to alter that are (usually pretty inexpensive), and turn them into fun little gifts or home decor.
This was a frame that I found at the Dollar Tree.  It would have looked cute painted also, (which was my first though), but I decided I liked the look of the silver.

I used Tammy's Happy Holly Days stamp

As is all of Tammy's stamps.... It's fun and easy to color!.
I used Prismacolor markers on this.

Copic for the shadowing
and a little Stickles on the Holly leaves

I used the Frayed Posies die to create what I hoped would pass as a poinsettia . I think it pulled it off pretty well. :)  I used red felt that had some glitter.
And who can resist a vintage button right?

You can find Tammy's products at Scrapbook.com here

It came together easy and was relaxing to create.
Again, I think this would be a fun craft project for a group. Maybe a next time the girls are over for some crafting we'll do this project.

Thanks so much for   stopping by and be sure to pop over to Tammy's blog for more  creative inspiration.

" Be Merry" Christmas Wreath

Welcome!!
It's " Five for Fridays" with the ladies of Tammy Tutterow's Creative Team.
I thought I'd show you how I dressed up this $ Store wreath, using Tammy's "Be Merry" Star stamp.
This is just one of those projects that is just so much more fun than the photo shows.  I'll share a couple of close ups below to give you a better idea of the Sparkle.

This is such a fun Stamp for Christmas.  Great for cards and other projects as well.
BE MERRY stamp
or Here at Scrapbook.com

I stamped on kraft paper and did my mail coloring with Prismacolor markers.  I added accents with my Wink of Stella marker.  You can't see them well in these first two photos at all, but trust me.... SPARKLY!!

I tipped it to the light a bit more there so you can see  the sparkle a bit better

I dug in my Christmas craft box and found some greenery to use and then I created a bow with some of the fabric goodies in this bag from www.thepinchushioneffect.com
As you can see I always have helpers in my room . lol

If you pop over to Tammy's blog you can see all kinds of  inspiration from Tammy and the other Ladies, as well as links to all their personal blogs.

As always, I appreciate you taking time to stop by!  Thank you!
Have a great week!

"Happy Anniversary" Card

Today I'm sharing an Anniversary Card I made for my Aunt and Uncle.  Not just any Anniversary, but 70 years together!!  Isn't that incredible?
This weekend Dan and I took a trip up to SD to see them and to visit my other Aunt who is in the Hospital. I have two Aunts and one Uncle left and they are all in their 90's.
I can't begin to tell you how special they are to me.

Dan had Friday off so we had a three day weekend.  Wes and Amy stayed here and held down the fort for us.  ( in other words... took care of our two spoiled pups). lol
It's about a 4 hour trip.  I have made this trip many, many times in my lifetime, as has the rest of my family.  Both my parents families are from SD.  My parents met , married and started their family there.
Over the years we visited there a lot.  Often when grandma and Grandpa still lived on the farm and then for years after they moved to town.  Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holidays and yes funerals/ It's a place filled with memories for my family.

Obligatory "lets start this weekend" photo in the car. lol

First stop to the farm to visit Aunt Donna and Uncle Al ( my moms brother).    I have never known they to live anywhere other than this. Everything about this farm house seems exactly they same as it did when I was a kid.  In this world full of constant change, I'm telling you.... these constants are so comforting to me.

After spending the afternoon with them, we headed to see Aunt Viv ( my moms sister) at the hospital.
She lives in an assisted living now, but recently has taken a couple of bad falls.  First breaking her hip and now her leg.  It sounds like she will be able to return to her place later this week.  That will make her very happy, as she loves it there.  I'm glad she can still feel independent there ,but also have help to get around and to make her meals.
Just like Aunt Donna and Uncle Al, she just keeps going!  I have so much love and admiration for these people. All in their 90's and they don't let much stop them.

When ever we are up  in SD visiting, it just brings back so many memories.  Boy, were we blessed with this family.  My dads family originated in SD also, but now most of them are gone.

After we got home I was looking thru old photos.  I thought I'd share a few in this blog post.
Below is a photo from my Grandparents Anniversary back in the sixties.
My mom far right.  Aunt Viv far left and Uncle Al behind Grandma and Grandpa.

The photo below was taken just after Dan and I were married and we had made a trip up there to visit.   In the photo: Aunt Viv, Grandma and I.
Oh... how I would love to go back in time and sit in Grandmas kitchen and visit her again.

Here is a photo of my Grandma standing out in front of her house showing off her geraniums.
Grandma and Grandpa were farmers, but when they got older they moved to this house in town.
Small town (population 275) .

Great Grandma,. Grandma, mom and I.

And here we are.... they whole fam.    Back row left to right:  Dan, Gary, Jan, and Ray
Front row:  Donna , mom, dad, me, Sharon.
Yes, I came along as a bit of a surprise lol

I'm so thankful we got to make another trip up there before winter sets in. ( winters there are no joke).
It was always a joke between everyone that if we were there and Dad saw one snow flake fall, we would have to pack up and head home.  Dan and I laughed about that when we got up in the morning to snow on the car.  When we went to visit Aunt Viv again at the hospital  again before we headed home she said, "Boy, if it was your dad, he would have headed home after the first snow flake".
94 and she doesn't forget a thing.

We both enjoyed our weekend in SD so much.  We talked about how nice it was to be there, people and places we love.  Small town, slower pace, and away from the news for a bit.
I think Dan was secretly happy  I didn't have cell phone reception most of the time. lol

Thanks, as always for stopping by!

Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and Cardmaker Magizine Blog Hop and Giveaway

Hello!
I'm excited to share a fun "Sparkly" Christmas Card with you today using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Adhesives. "Wear your Adhesive on the Outside".

Welcome to Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® + CardMaker® Magazine Blog Hop and Giveaway! Today's theme is “Wear Your Adhesives on the Outside”, which means using various Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® products with different mediums to customize your projects. I'm using Foam Squares and a stencil to show you how to make a sparkly background for your card.

I receive products from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® as a design team member for use in my projects. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience and doing so I can share what I personally love to use.

Here are some of the different Adhesives I used in different ways, while creating this card.
My Stick Permanent strips -I used as my general adhesive to assemble the card.
Easy Runner Micro - This was used as a very thin line of adhesive around the outside edge of the main image to add a think strip of glitter.
Thin 3D Foam Squares- These thin foam squares are what I used to create my background, using a stencil as a grid.
Crafty Foam Tape White - The foam tape was used to lift my matted piece up to be adhered to the base piece.

Here is how I created this background using the Thin 3D Foam Squares and glitter.

1. Using a stencil is a great way to create a pattern for foam squares.  I used this fun Polk-a-dot stencil from Tammy Tutterow Designs as a pattern/grid for my foam squares.

2.You can see in step 2, how I only applied the foam squares around the outer edge, as that is all that will be seen.

3.  Once the foam square are all in place. lift off the thin piece on the tops to expose the adhesive.  You and then sprinkle them off with fine glitter.  Tapping off any excess.

4. As you assemble the card, add a couple of pieces of  Foam tape to support the middle of the card before adding the matted layers.
